8 Hulbert Street Director - Tessi Spearing Meals On Wheels is a service to the home bound which consists of a hot nutritious meal for noon time plus a cold supper bag. An emergency frozen dinner is available as an option. Volunteers deliver five days a week in the city of Auburn. Modified diets are available (low fat, low salt, and diabetic). The hot meal consists of meat, vegetables, salad, bread and butter, milk and dessert. Supper bags contain salad or sandwich, fruit (or fruit juice), dessert and milk. Weekend or emergency frozen dinners contain a complete meal that can be kept in the refrigerator and freezer. Who is eligible? Anyone of any age in need of home delivered meals due to physical limitations, illness, inability to shop or cook or disability is eligible. There is no age requirement. Eligibility is based solely on need for service. How much does it cost? Currently a donation of $4.00 is requested for a hot meal. Supper bags are $2.25 and frozen weekend and emergency meals are $4.00 (donations and USDA commodity cash monies are used to defray the cost of the meals). Payment can be made weekly or monthly. Food stamps are accepted. |
